The SAME Museum was inaugurated in 2008 and preserves material that bears witness to the history of SDF and agricultural mechanisation in Italy through prototypes and production tractors in perfect condition as well as documentation in terms of text and imagery.
Together with the adjacent Historical Archives, the Museum provides an example of an industrial space (the former spare parts warehouse) reclaimed inside the company for the purposes of preserving, promoting and publicising the history of a company whose technological innovations mean that it is recognised as a major leader in agricultural mechanisation, both nationally and internationally.
The Museum and Archives are lively, dynamic places, continually evolving thanks to donations made periodically to the collection and events organised for the Group, enthusiasts, customers, researchers and schools.
Indeed, education is one of the main functions of a museum, alongside research and preservation. It collaborates in educational and induction projects for students through temporary exhibitions and guided visits.
The display area, and its vintage machines, illustrates the more than 90-year history of SAME and has a central showroom that houses a collection of tractors currently in production, according to the occasion.
The results of the work by founders Francesco and Eugenio Cassani, and with them generations of men and women who helped agricultural motorisation take off in Italy, are all on display.
The story of the company and the key figures within it is told through technical, administrative and commercial documents, imagery, products and the machines preserved and showcased in the Archives and the Museum. These material records can be considered rightfully and fully as heritage, expressing the company’s ethical and aesthetic worth and capacity for innovation, which extends from the past and continues to this day.
The Museum was declared “of exceptional interest” in 2011 by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Regional Directorate for Cultural and Local Heritage in Lombardy, pursuant to articles 10 and 13 of the Code of Cultural and Local Heritage (Italian Law Decree no. 42 of 22 January 2004). This recognition is in addition to the Historical Archives being declared “of particular historical importance” by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage in 2010.
